Streamlines and Detached Wakes in Steady Flow past a Spherical Liquid Drop
AbstractThe flow interior and exterior to a viscous liquid drop in steady motion in an unbounded quiescent fluid is investigated using the perturbation solution of Taylor and Acrivos (1964) to first order in the Reynolds number. New analytical results are derived for the detached wake behind the drop. It is found that as the viscosity of the drop tends to infinity the wake becomes attached to t...
متن کاملFlow Pattern Identification and Pressure Drop Calculation for Gas-Liquid Flow in a Horizontal Pipeline
Two phase gas-liquid flow pattern in a horizontal pipeline is predicted very accurately using a newly-developed analytical relation. The pattern identification is based on one of the most widely used graphs, the Baker diagram, modified in a way that compensates for the unrealistic oversimplifications of recent works. The Kern's method of pressure drop calculation is used to obtain the frict...
متن کاملAnimating streamlines with repeated asymmetric patterns for steady flow visualization
Animation provides intuitive cueing for revealing essential spatial-temporal features of data in scientific visualization. This paper explores the design of Repeated Asymmetric Patterns (RAPs) in animating evenly-spaced color-mapped streamlines for dense accurate visualization of complex steady flows. We present a smooth cyclic variable-speed RAP animation model that performs velocity (magnitud...
متن کاملFlow Past a Liquid Drop with a Large Non-uniform Radial Velocity
In this analysis, the translation of a liquid drop experiencing a strong non-uniform radial velocity has been investigated. The situation arises when a moving liquid drop experiences condensation, evaporation or material decomposition at the surface. By simultaneously treating the flow fields inside and outside the drop, we have obtained physical results relevant to the problem. The magnitude o...
متن کاملSteady Motion of a Drop along a Liquid Interface
We investigate the motion of a liquid drop as it flows along the interface of a liquid film. Steady, two-dimensional solutions are found in the lubrication limit for a horizontal and inclined plane. The effects of the physical parameters on the interface shapes are studied. When the plane is inclined, solutions are found only for a special set of parameter values.
